Speak to Waldhar
Take The Caged Magistrate from Brant and obtain the Gaol Key. Visit Waldhar in Vernworth’s gaol. He will not simply leave: he wants somewhere with plenty of tomes.
Find the underground library
Go to the Gracious Hand in the Slums and help Kendrick. Make the requested food and money donations to begin his missing-child investigation, The Heel of History.
Ask the three nearby children about Malcolm: search around the ruins outside, the nearby lookout, and the girl inside. Return to Kendrick with their clues and follow him into the cleared tower basement. Find Malcolm and follow him to the hidden library to complete the investigation. An ordinary bookshop or a room with shelves is not Waldhar’s destination.
Lead him out and report back
- Return to the gaol and tell Waldhar about the library.
- Open his cell with the Gaol Key if needed.
- Lead him out of the gaol, keeping close enough for him to follow, until the scene triggers.
- Once he is safely out, return to Brant and report the result.
Avoid attacking guards or treating the escort as complete just because the cell door opened. Waldhar later moves to the library, which also matters when you seek Towering Earth.
